At The Church of St. Barnabas we understand Holy Matrimony to be a physical and spiritual union, entered into within the community of faith, by mutual consent of heart, mind and will, and with intent that it be life-long. We are committed to treating equally all couples presenting themselves for the rite of Marriage. Our commitment to the sacrament of marriage being celebrated within the community of faith informs our policy.
Typically, preparation for weddings at St. Barnabas takes from 4 to 6 months, allowing time for scheduling and planning as well as for pre-marital counseling for couples with a member of our clergy staff. For more information, or to begin planning your wedding, contact the office at (914) 591-8194 to make an appointment.
The sacrament known as Holy Baptism represents full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the universal Church. It is a public statement of one’s intention to follow the way of Jesus, and of parents’ intention to raise their child in the Christian faith. Because baptism is initiation into the full church, and it is a public statement of your intention, we do not offer private baptisms except in cases of extreme emergency, such as grave illness. Baptism is appropriately held in the context of public worship, with the entire congregation joining in to support the newly baptized. Baptism is open to all people, regardless of age or background. We consider that the bond which God establishes in baptism is indissoluble, so baptism is only administered once.
If you desire to be baptized or have your child baptized, please speak to one of the clergy by calling the church office at 914-591-8194.
