Carpenter's Kids Message Board
Global Concerns Update: Our Carpenter's Kids linked parishes of Kikombo and Wilunze in Tanzania have posted notes to our parish on the Carpenter's Kids online message board. The Global Concerns Committee will continue to monitor the message board and provide communications from our partner parishes whenever we receive them. We also post messages of encouragement, prayer and support to our partner parishes on a monthly basis.

About the Global Concerns Committee

The Global Concerns committee is a group of St. Barnabas parishioners who are looking at ways to get our parish more involved in the Episcopal Church's global mission.  The Church has become increasingly focused on combating extreme poverty in the developing world, through the Millennium Development Goals framework.  With the support of the clergy and vestry, our committee formed to bring forward opportunities to engage with that mission in addition to the other wonderful outreach work that this church does.  For more information on the activities of the Global Concerns committee, please contact Jeanne-Marie Baron at (914) 478-0604, jmbaron6@optonline.net ; or Natalie Moore at (914) 693-6086, nmooredf@optonline.net  .

The Carpenter's Kids

The first project of the Global Concerns committee has been to involve the Church of St. Barnabas in "The Carpenter's Kids," a program of the Episcopal Diocese of New York (EDNY) to provide primary education for impoverished AIDS orphans in the Diocese of Central Tanganyika (DCT) in Tanzania. A highly successful program with a strong local infrastructure and oversight, The Carpenter's Kids links EDNY parishes with parishes in DCT to provide school fees, uniforms, school supplies and school-based food for an average of 50 children per parish at a cost of $50 per child per year. These are children who would otherwise not be able to attend school, and who lack basic nutrition and healthcare. To date, St. Barnabas parishioners have pledged to support 119 children as well as providing their village with a cow that will supply milk for their nutritional needs. We are in the process of being linked with the Tanzanian village of Kikombo, which comprises two parishes, in an ongoing relationship of communication, support and prayer.
